Applying for Retirement

Service Retirement provides a lifetime benefit. Employees may retire as early as age 50 with at least five years of CalPERS service credit. However, if all service was earned on or after January 1, 2013, the minimum retirement age is 52.

Refer to the to ensure you're prepared and have all necessary documents for a complete application package. You can find a more detailed checklist in , or watch .

Once you have made the decision to retire, you must do the following within 90 ‐ 120 days prior to your retirement date.

You have three different options on how to submit a CalPERS Retirement Application:

  • Online by logging into your account
  • By mail
  • In-person at the nearest
    • Glendale
    • Orange
    • San Bernardino

CalPERS will send an acknowledgment letter after your retirement application has been received and will contact you if additional information is needed.
