Understanding Your English and Math Categories
If you are joining CPP as a first-time freshman, you are required to complete your GE Area 1A (English Composition) and GE Area 2 (Mathematical Concepts) within your first year.
If you have questions or need assistance making course adjustments, contact the Bronco Advising Center.
Finding Your Categories
- Log into your Bronco Applicant Portal. and go to Application To Do List.
- Click on the link for the Category you want to know more about. The details will tell you what Category you are placed in.

English Categories

You have completed your General Education Area 1A (English Composition) through AP/IB or transfer coursework.Review your curriculum sheet and consult with your academic advsior to see if there are additional English courses needed for your major requirements.

You are ready to enroll in a General Education Area 1A (English Composition) course. Look in your CPP email for your personalized link to the Directed Self-Placement Survey (DSP), which will help you determine which English course you should enroll in. Complete the DSP by your Orientation date.With your DSP results, you may be guided to register for a course in Fall 2025, or you will be required to register for it in Spring 2026.
If you are interested in the Interdisciplinary General Education track, talk to an advisor during your Orientation program.
If your DSP score recommends placement into a multilingual (M) section of a course, you may be directed to courses with the M designation.

Based on your Directed Self Placement score, you are recommended to enroll in a stretch General Education Area 1A (English Composition) course. You will be guided to register for a course in Fall 2025.

If you are participating in the Bronco Scholars 6-week math course: You will begin a 2-part course series in Summer 2025, and will register for a course for Fall 2025 to complete your Area 2 requirement.
