Summer Institute 2025
Scholarship of Practice: gAI Edition

June 2 to June 30; remote

CAFE's Summer Institute 2025 Scholarship of Practice: gAI Edition will offer an opportunity to delve deeply into ideas about using -- or NOT using! -- generative AI in our teaching and other work with students. We will also use the data dashboards and other data sources that the CSU and ²©88ÑÇÖÞ make available to us.

Scholarship of practice (SoP) considers our relationships and activities with students as worthy of serious, systematic, publishable study. Like all scholarship, SoP projects have clear goals, adequate preparation, appropriate methods, significant results, effective presentation, and reflective critique. One important aspect of SoP is investigating new tools of practice. Generative AI is the most powerful new tool of practice in recent years, and perhaps even in our collective experience.

This is a fully remote Institute, with materials offered via Canvas. There will be synchronous meetings on Mondays June 2 - 30, 10am - 12pm, Pacific time. Faculty who participate in 3 of the 5 synchronous meetings and complete a set of structured deliverables will get a certificate of completion.

Unfortunately, given the university's financial situation we do not have funding to offer stipends for faculty. We will strive to make this experience valuable and worth your time to improve your practice and help you initiate publishable projects that can advance your academic career.
